I've got you covered!
As a nutritionist my clients regularly say things like 'after this next thing, life will slow down and then I can take care of me.' But life just keeps going, and people slowly get more and more worn out.
So, how do I recommend taking care of ourselves while life carries on? Focus on the little things. Every opportunity you have to add goodness or reduce the junk will add up!
Everything we put into our bodies takes resources to be digested, metabolized and eliminated. Some foods give our body lots of nutrition and replace and replenish these resources, while some foods do not and take more form our bodies than they give us (other than calories.)
When the food and drink we consume take more from our bodies than they give I call those detractors. (Examples of detractors are sugar, alcohol and processed food.) When the detractors we consume out number the nutritious foods we eat then we deplete our body’s recourses. As resources deplete it will impact your health. Sleep, digestion, immune, mental health, energy levels, overall sense of wellbeing all suffer without proper nutrition.
October is a great month to take better care of yourself! The rush of summer vacation is over, but the winter holidays haven’t begun yet. Every October I run a program focused on reducing detractors and giving your body an opportunity to recover form all your summer fun.
After just one month of reducing detractors, people report improved sleep, improved mood, healthier skin, more energy, better digestion, weight loss, and better blood sugar management.
Reduce and Restore is the program I run every fall (Sept 30-Oct 31 this year) and participants can decide on their own what level of reduction they will participate in. I provide 5 full weeks of meal plans including shopping lists and recipes, an optional Facebook group for a supportive community of people also reducing detractors for the month and, a weekly check in to keep you motivated and accountable.
Alcohol is one of the biggest detractors out there, even light drinkers can have noticeable benefits from taking a break for just a month and it gives an opportunity to see if alcohol is causing—or masking—health issues. While I recommend taking a break from alcohol as well as other detractors it is not necessary to do so to take part in this program.
Even if you eat and drink in a healthy way most of the time but are just sick of deciding what to make you should check out Reduce and Restore!
